2024 was another busy one with the new St. Paul’s Hospital and the Clinical Support & Research Centre (CSRC) project teams pushing forward to make the Jim Pattison Medical Campus a reality.

2024 was another busy one with the new St. Paul’s Hospital and the Clinical Support & Research Centre (CSRC) project teams pushing forward to make the Jim Pattison Medical Campus a reality. Let’s take a look back at what was accomplished this year:
Construction & design
It wasn’t too long ago when we were looking out at a large excavation site. Now, we’re staring at a massive building nearly twice the size of the current hospital!
- Reached a major milestone with the ‘topping off’ of the building – now the hospital stands at its full 11-storey height
- Hosted tours at the life-sized mock rooms (be on the lookout for public tours in the new year!)
- Partnered with design researchers from Emily Carr University of Art + Design
- Installed all major mechanical and electrical equipment such as generators, air handling units, boilers, and rooftop coolers
- Installed exterior wall panels (expected to finish in 2025)

Technology
Innovative technologies are being introduced early to start improving care now and help us get ready for opening day.
- Launched BC’s first Care Coordination Centre that provides real-time insights to improve patient journeys and allow staff to spend more time on patient care
- Installed a new AI-based lab system that’s freeing up staff to focus on essential patient care tasks
Fun fact: we’re ordering over 100 varieties of furniture for the hospital, including enough chairs to fill 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes!
Clinical Support & Research Centre (CSRC)
Work on the state-of-the-art CSRC has been moving full steam ahead!
- Selected the design and construction team
- Submitted the Development Permit application to the City of Vancouver
- Completed over 300 hours of engagement with researchers, physicians, and corporate staff on building design
- Prepared the construction site for excavation starting early in the new year
