Technology at the new hospital

The hospital will feature technology that focuses on treatment through teamwork with patients and their families, as well as advanced technologies like immunotherapy, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

We’re leveraging technology to help improve patient experiences in and outside the hospital. Patient rooms will feature integrated technology to help patients and their families stay informed about their care plan and have more control of the room environment. We’re also exploring ways technology can help patients take their experience into their own hands to check referrals, manage appointments, check-in at the hospital, and access digital maps to help them navigate through the campus without getting lost.

24/7 Care Coordination Centre

Providence's Care Coordination Centre is a first for BC and it's a game changer. Working in partnership with GE HealthCare and  staff across the organization, the Care Coordination Centre is custom-designed to improve flows for staff and patients. From the moment a patient arrives to when they are discharged, this technology will provide insight into beds, capacity and bottlenecks – in real time and 24/7.

BC’s First Care Coordination Centre: Transforming Patient Care

When the new St. Paul's Hospital opens, the Care Coordination Centre will also be a dedicated physical space open 24/7, named the Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Woodward's Foundation Care Coordination Centre. With a video wall of 16 large screens showing the tiles and their customized views, our teams and site leaders can better collaborate to support patient journeys, clinical quality and safety across units, departments and our hospital.

Research Innovation

Next to and connected to the hospital will be a new state-of-the-art research, technology, and medical complex, known for now as the Clinical Support and Research Centre (CSRC). It’s a place where our researchers and medical staff will advance medical breakthroughs in our areas of expertise and in emerging areas like bioengineering, nanotechnology, augmented and virtual reality, and medical device prototyping.
