When you see the site and all the different trades involved, and how complicated it is to build a hospital of this scale, it’s impressive that it’s going as smoothly as it is.

While construction hums along on site, the project continues to make a positive impact on the community. The new St. Paul’s Hospital and Health Campus is the first construction project to trigger the City of Vancouver’s Community Benefit Agreement Policy. At the two-year mark, the project continues to exceed targets:
- Hired 48% of new employees from an equity-seeking group, 19% of whom live locally.
- Procured 30% of goods and services from businesses in Vancouver.
- Sourced 16% of goods and services from businesses with social impact.
Inside the new St. Paul’s Hospital
Take a tour of spaces inside the Pregnancy, Newborn, and Birthing unit, including a maternity room and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) room.
Single-room maternity care (SRMC) will continue to be the model at the new St. Paul’s Hospital. Pregnant people will be able to labour, deliver, and recover all in their own private room. New to the low-risk SRMC rooms will be a labouring tub to provide patients with an alternative labouring option.
SRMCs provide patients with a welcoming and homelike environment for a more comfortable stay.
At the NICU, we’re strengthening our family-centered care by providing families with private rooms so they can have their own space to rest and be close to their babies.
NICU rooms have space for the birthing person and baby to be cared for in the same space and at the same time.

A BC first: transforming care with real-time, predictive technology
A centralized, physical space will be built at the new St. Paul’s Hospital, similar to the Advent Health Mission Control in Orlando, Florida.
Providence Health Care will soon launch BC’s first Care Coordination Centre, a hospital version of air traffic control. Staff will use it to get site-wide insights of beds, capacity, bottlenecks, inpatient status and what needs attention – in real time and 24/7.
Providence’s digital transformation will be supported by a 2,800 square feet, purpose-built space at the new St. Paul’s Hospital.
